Wanted: A new music playlist

Last week I became the happy owner of a couple of iTunes gift cards, and I’m going to shamelessly use my blog to ask for recommendations about what music I should now be adding to my iPod.

You might wonder, “Would Jen like what I like?” Probably. I like just about everything (though I guess I’m not huge on rap or country or Lady Gaga). On any given day, you’ll find me shuffling between tunes from Michael Buble to Linkin’ Park, Chris Tomlin to John Mayer and literally hundreds more. Oftentimes, my favorites are artists who aren’t necessarily seeing a ton of mainstream success. I love to find a hidden gem like Brooke Fraser or Pricilla Ahn. I think the last music I downloaded was the cast recording of Glee. I know…I’m so very cool and sophisticated, right?

So please tell me…what’s your favorite recent music purchase? Or, maybe it’s not recent, but an old tried and true tune that you just love to blast loudly from your car stereo now that it’s warm enough to drive with the windows down. Help me spend my gift cards wisely!

  1. OK, you asked for it. I know that probably the LAST thing you want are music selections or favorites from you Dad but here goes.
    Blast loudly with windows down:
    "LET THERE BE ROCK"-AC/DC
    "THUNDERSTRUCK"-AC/DC
    "REVIVAL"-ROBIN MARK

    More mellow:
    "I & LOVE& YOU"-THE AVETT BROS.
    "ALL THE BEST"-JOHN PRINE
"END OF THE LINE"-THE TRAVELING WILBURYS

    You asked for it.

  2. Ok...maybe our tastes are a little different. :) I actually have one of those songs already though (Revival). You'll have to tell me more about the mellow artists sometime.

  3. Ok, since I also just recently purchased songs from GLEE, I might not be all that helpful to you. (I may also have recently downloaded a couple Justin Timberlake songs, but we'll keep that on the DL.) Here goes:
    - One of my recent faves is Good Life by OneRepublic.
    - Kris Allen did a great cover of Let it Be for Haiti relief.
    - And if we're talking oldies but goodies, this time of year always makes me bust out a little Summertime by the one and only Fresh Prince! :)
    - I've been listening to more Ingrid Michaelson and Regina Spektor lately too
    - Finally, Fee has some great worship tunes

How's that for variety! I'm interested in hearing more recommendations too!

  6. If you want something really mellow and peaceful...I'd go for the Into the Wild soundtrack. Eddie Vedder did all the music and it is awesome! I also really like Toby Mac for a good beat. His new one is pretty good. Of course, there is always "I gotta feeling" by Black Eyed Peas. It's impossible for me to sit still when I listen to it. :) Hope that helps!

  8. Even though you don't like country, try Lady Antebellum (I think it's played on top 40 stations too so not super country sounding). Also love the new Train song called Soul Sister and Fireflies by Owl City.
